BNP strongly criticized and rejected the proposed budget for FY 2018-19 saying it is imaginary and aimed to gain government popularity ahead of the up-coming national polls.
BNP’s Standing Committee Members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Dr. Abdul Moin Khan equivocally termed the budget as an election budget.
“The budget is unrealistic. It is to deceive people, highly deficit, loan-dependent budget to attract voters,” Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said while addressing an Iftar Mahfil organised by Bangladesh Kalyan Party, component of BNP-led alliance, in an auditorium in Paltan intersection in the capital.
He said, “The budget is designed to bluff people ahead of the upcoming general election, it is totally imaginary. The government has designed the big budget only to garner votes in the next general election.”
“The government will not be able to implement the budget due to shortcoming of its financial capacity and inefficiency,” he said.
Moudud Ahmed, said the government has compromised many issues for the next general election.
“So it did not have the courage to touch some of the fundamental issues in any meaningful manner. It is nothing but an electoral budget,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting in the city.
Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan on Thursday termed the proposed budget for FY 2018-19 a fake budget.
“They are plundering peoples money in the name of budget allocations. This government is a fake government. They have no right to pass a budget,” the BNP senior leader said while talking with journalists after giving wrath upon the party’s founder late President Ziaur Rahman’s grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith earlier on the day placed around Tk 4,64,573 crore national budget in the parliament for the fiscal year 2018-19.
