The Money Loan Court-1 of Dhaka yesterday fixed September 10 as new date to frame issue in a case filed for loan default of over Tk 45 crore of Dandy Dyeing Limited.
The court fixed the date after hearing the time petition submitted on behalf of the defendants. However, Begum Khaleda Zia, one of
the defendants, submitted her written objection to the court on July 14. The court asked other defendants to submit their written replies on the day; otherwise, the court will frame issue on the scheduled date.
Other defendants include Khaleda’s eldest son Tarique Rahman, her late brother Sayeed Iskander’s wife Nasrin Ahmed, his sons Shams Iskander and Shafin Iskander and daughter Sumaiya Iskander, Tarique’s business partner Giasuddin Al Mamun and Mamun’s wife Shahina Begum and Kazi Galib Ahmed, Sharmila Rahman, the widow of BNP chief’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, and their two daughters.
The Sonali Bank Limited filed the case loan default that accumulated to Tk 45.49 crore. As Koko died, the court, on March 16, allowed the inclusion of Khaleda Zia, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and two daughters as defendants in the case.
Sonali Bank’s lawyer Jahangir Hossain filed a petition seeking summon of the court against the defendants.
Advocate Joynul Abedin Mezbah stood for the defendants, while Advocates Jahangir Hossain and Hosne Ara Begum appeared to the court on behalf of the plaintiff.
On March 8 last, Sonali Bank’s Senior Executive Officer Nazrul Islam filed a petition with the court seeking its order to include Khaleda Zia, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and daughters Jahiya Rahman, Jafiya Rahman as defendants of the case as inheritors. Khaleda’s son and Dandy Dyeing director Tarique Rahman is also a defendant in the case
Dandy Dyeing took a loan of Tk 13.14 crore from Sonali Bank on May 9, 1993. The bank waived interests following an application of the defendants on October 16, 2001.
On October 2, 2012, Sonali Bank filed the case against Tarique Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko and others as the defendants failed to repay the loan. On October 3, the court appointed Advocate Abdus Salam to mediate the case.
But the defendants filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the process of the case.
