Ismail and Shirin Akhter of the Bangladesh Navy became the fastest men and women in 100 meter sprint in Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games; Shirin Akhter has been crowned the fastest woman.
They emerged as the fastest man and woman of the country after winning their respective 100-metre sprint titles of the 44th National Athletics Championship held in January this year.
Shirin won the 100 meters sprint gold medal in 12 times. Ismail won four times.
Ismail’s previous best was in 10.55 seconds in the 44th National Athletics Championship while Shirin recorded in 11.80 seconds in the same event.
Ismail won the gold medal in the men’s 100m on Saturday with a time of 10.50 seconds on the track at Bangabandhu National Stadium. Navy’s Abdur Rouf (10.60) won the silver medal and Bangladesh Air Force’s Naeem Islam (10.60) won the bronze medal in the event.
Shirin was the best in the women’s 100m sprint with a timing of 11.60 seconds. the Sharifa Khatun (11.60) of the Army won the silver medal and Sonia Akhter (12.10) of the Bangladesh Sports Education Institute (BKSP) won the bronze medal in the event.
‘I was second in the long jump in the previous Bangladesh Games. I am very happy that Bangladesh Games has been the best for the first time. “?I couldn’t practice regularly because of Covid-19. Sometimes I came to the field, sometimes I couldn’t. Now I’ve won a gold medal, that’s all I could I ask for,’said Ismail.
‘ I am happy to win the first gold medal in Bangladesh Games. Bangladesh Athletics Federation, Olympic Association, BKSP, Navy have worked behind this. I am grateful to everyone. I also thank my coach Abdullah Hale Kafi.’ Shirin said.
