Taher Mahmud Tariq, a 10th class student of Government SM High School in Ishwardi, has produced oxygen by constructing a plant at low cost from wind. Tariq’s research has been successful under the supervision of Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer and in collaboration with the school authorities. After testing in the oxygen laboratory of the plant discovered by Tariq, optimism has been expressed about the possibility of producing huge amount of oxygen in the country at low cost on a large scale.
The low-cost oxygen production at Tariq’s plant was described at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Tuesday (June 8). Upazila Nirbahi Officer PM Imrul Kayes, Secondary Education Officer Selim Akhter and school principal Ainul Islam and other officials were present.
Student Tariq said he had oxygen problems when his father died about a year ago. Moreover, considering the increasing demand for oxygen in coronavirus infections, he embarked on research to produce low-cost oxygen. Financial assistance has been provided for the construction of the plant.
The normal level of oxygen in a healthy person is 95-100%. If this level is less than 93%, caution is required and if it is less than 92%, oxygen is given as per the doctor’s advice. Those whose oxygen level dropped to 90/91 have already been able to raise their level to 98-99 with this oxygen, Tariq said. Tariq also expressed hope that success will come in the lab tests of the university.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Selim Akhter said, “We have all encouraged Tariq’s work.” Now the lab test is left. Lab tests should be done to see if there is any other element of air in the oxygen produced in the plant.
Ainul Islam, the principal of Tariq’s school, said he was very talented. Seeing the talent of this fatherless poor student, we have been by his side since the sixth grade. I hope that the oxygen lab produced at this plant, which was discovered at low cost, will definitely get approval.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer PM Imrul Kayes said that Tariq has surprised everyone by setting up a plant at low cost keeping in mind the oxygen shortage and its urgent need. Cooperated in building the plant at low cost and we encouraged him. The Department of Applied Chemistry of Dhaka, Pabna University of Science and Technology has been contacted for Tariq’s Oxygen Lab test. He said that if this oxygen is tested in the north, it will be possible to produce a large amount of oxygen at low cost in the country by building a large scale plant.
