A press conference was held to protest against the tender of Karimpur reservoir under the Kanungo office of Railways, Ishwardi illegally with special facilities at a lower price of around and demanding Tk 10,000 per acre punishment to the culprits and re-leasing in the name of circleless association. Speaking on behalf of the Circleless Association at a press conference at the Ishwardi Upazila Press Club on Saturday afternoon, the Circleless Association President Sultan Sardar and General Secretary Jamal Uddin. Complained in a written statement that since 1983, they have been enjoying 10 acres and 60 per cent of the water body in the name of this association with an annual rent of Tk 24,000.
The members of the association adjacent to the water body have demolished three acres of ancestral property of the permanent residents and converted it into the same water body. The members of the association have been affected.
In this situation, the unscrupulous officials of the railways are trying to lease elsewhere at a lower rate of Tk 10,000 per acre through the said tender without giving any notice. It is completely contrary to the gazette published by the Government of Bangladesh on 23 March 2006.
Speaking at the press conference, the speakers demanded exemplary punishment for the misconduct of the officials. They are trying to lease elsewhere at a lower rate by inviting tenders. They said that some of the officers and employees working in the railways are receiving regular salaries, but are working against the interests of the government. They are seeking the intervention of the Prime Minister to take steps to renew the lease by taking rent in the name of a regular circleless association. At the same time, he demanded exemplary punishment to the responsible officials of the government who are benefiting themselves by causing financial loss to the railways.
