SM Iqbal Hossain Sumon got the support of Awami League for the post of mayor in the upcoming Gafargaon municipality election to be held on December 28. He is the current mayor of the municipality and vice-president of the Mymensingh district committee of the Sechchhasevok League. His name was announced at a meeting of the Upazila Awami League executive committee on Tuesday evening. The name was announced by the president of the meeting, convener of Upazila Awami League, local MP Fahmi Golandaj Babel.
It is learned that a meeting of the executive committee of the Upazila Awami League was convened at the Upazila Awami League office on Tuesday afternoon to select candidates from the grassroots level and send their names to the Center in the upcoming municipal elections. Voting was also organized to select the candidates. As the current mayor SM Iqbal Hossain Sumon is the sole candidate, the name of SM Iqbal Hossain Sumon was unanimously accepted as the mayor in the presence of the leaders of Upazila Awami League and Municipality Awami League.
