A five-day Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference will begin in Geneva, Switzerland on March 16, said a press release here on Saturday.
Speakers of parliament of 163 member countries, lawmakers and secretary generals will participate in the event. Besides, representatives from different international organizations will take part in the conference.
A nine-member Bangladesh delegation led by Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will attend the meet. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury left the capital for Geneva last night for joining the conference, the press release added. Other members of the delegation are whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Mohammad Sahabuddin M Tazul Islam Chowdhury, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, ABM Fazley Karim Chowdhury Panchanan Biswas, M Rustam Ali Farazi, Farhad Hossain and Nazmul Haq Prodhan. In the plenary session, Shirin Sharmin will speak on the issue ‘renewing our commitment to peace and democracy’.
