The Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) investigation team is still in dark about the origin of the inferno at Gulshan DCC Market in the capital early Tuesday that gutted nearly 600 shops and handed a lost of about Tk 400 crore.
We could not yet find the reasons of the fire in the market, the FSCD Director (Operations and Maintenance) Major Shakil Newaz told the reporters on Wednesday.
The investigation team will prepare a report based on the possible causes in connection with the fire within seven working days, the Director said.
The probe body members have already visited the spot and collected evidence of the fire, the fire service official said.
We are also investigating the incident in our own way and taking the businessmen’s allegation of the sabotage into account, he said.
In a query, he termed the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Anisul Haq’s statement as personal opinion.
Hours after the incident, the DNCC Mayor ruled out the fire incident as an act of sabotage or planned incident, and claimed that the electrical malfunction might have caused the fire.
He repeatedly said that it was mere an accident and suspected that short-circuit might have caused the fire.
Besides, still now, traders are claiming that the fire was a pre-planned incident to evict them from the market centering a long dispute over the market building.
The businessmen were unhappy with the mayor for his statement about fire.
They termed the Mayor’s comment as irrelevant and baseless, because the probe body only or the fire service authorities have right to make statement about any fire incident.
DNCC Kitchen Market Businessmen’s Association President Sher Mohammad alleged that the fire was an act of sabotage.
The DNCC Mayor has no right to say anything about the fire incident without any evidence, he claimed.
