Despite all-out efforts to debunk the mystery, investigators are still in the dark about the motives behind the killing of Japanese national Hoshi Kunio in Rangpur.
They could not make any headway in the investigation into the murder case as they are yet to get any clue to the killers involved in the murder, detective sources said on Saturday.
All the units of the law enforcing agencies, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID), have been working to unearth the mystery behind the killing amid the mounting international pressure for prompt action against the culprits involved in the gruesome murder, they said.
DIG (Rangpur Range) Humayun Kabir said that a special team, comprising senior police officers, has been formed to assist the investigators and quickly arrest the killers of the Japanese national.
He, however, said they have so far failed to make any tangible progress into the killing case of Hoshi Kunio.
Director (Legal and Media wing) of RAB headquarters Mufti Mahmood Khan said, “We’re making our all efforts to dig out who killing of the foreign national and unearth the mystery behind the killing.”
Meanwhile, a Rangpur court has sent the BNP leader, who was detained over Japanese national Hoshi Kunio murder, to jail on Saturday after cancelling his remand.
Rashedunnabi Khan Biplob, a member of BNP’s Rangpur city unit, was sent to prison following the order of the district Senior Judicial Magistrate Abul Taleb.
Biplob’s wife Shirin Akhter Diba on Saturday filed a petition seeking the cancellation of remand of her husband on grounds of health.
Biplob’s remand order was cancelled as the law enforcers did not need him for questioning anymore, said his lawyer Aftab Uddin.
Earlier on October 6, a court in Rangpur placed Rashedunnabi, and Humayun Kabir Hira, a friend of Hoshi, on 10-days remand.
On the other hand, two BRAC bank officials held in Rajshahi were freed on Saturday after questioning over the murder of Kunio, said Joynal Abedin, Additional Superintendent of Police in Rangpur district.
“Two officials of BRAC Bank’s Alupatti branch in Rajshahi, Sultan Nahid and HM Shahriar Alam, were picked by Rajshahi police on Thursday night and handed over to Rangpur police on Friday. Nahid, is a cousin of ‘Hira’ — one of the suspects of the murder,” the police official said.
Rangpur’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdur Razzak said that the two were released on Saturday after questioning.
“They have been released as no substantial information was found from them regarding the murder of Hoshi Kunio,” he said.
Motorbike-riding gunmen killed Hoshi, 66, near his agriculture project in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur district on October 3, just five days into the murder of Italian national Cesare Tavella, 50, in Dhaka’s Gulshan diplomatic zone in a similar style.
Police have so far arrested two and detained 10, but have failed to find any clue to Hoshi’s killing yet.
