‘Govt firm free Bangladesh from tobacco to achieve SDG’s

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said on Saturday the government is determined to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with freeing Bangladesh from tobacco by 2030.
“People should be aware about the menace of taking tobacco alongside with execution of the laws to make Bangladesh from tobacco to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030,” he was addressing a function as the chief guest at CIRDAP auditorium marking the World No Tobacco Day to be held on May 31.
He called upon the people to come forward in protest against taking tobacco publicly, saying, “If necessary cases can be filed with police stations to this end. In case of denying registration of cases in police stations, cases can be lodged with courts.”
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique stressed the need for introducing education against tobacco in the secondary and higher secondary education system in getting a positive result to fight tobacco and help to change people’s mindset towards the menace.
Deputy Editor of the Bengali daily, Samokal, Mozammel Hossain presided over the function while coordinator of Progya, a private organization, Md Hasan Shahriar presented the keynote paper.
