Ex-Major Sinha murder case: Investigation Officer changed: RAB takes 4 cops, 3 accused on remand

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday took seven accused, including four cops, on remand in the case filed over the killing of Major (Retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing.
Earlier on Friday morning, RAB took them under their custody from Cox’s Bazar jail, said RAB Director (legal and media wing) Lt Col Ashik Billah.
The seven accused were placed on a seven-day remand on Wednesday.
The policemen who were remanded are Assistant Sub-Inspector Liton Mia, and three constables Safanur Rahman, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah.
The rest three are Mohammad Ayas, M Nurul Amin and Mohammad Nazimuddin of Marishbunia under Baharchhara union of Teknaf. Previously they were witnesses
in police case over same incident.
RAB arrested Ayas, Nurul Amin and Nazimuddin on Tuesday.
But, suspended OC Pradeep Kumar Das, Inspector of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre Liyakat Ali and Sub-Inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit would be interrogated later, RAB sources said.
Though on August 6, a Cox’s Bazar court placed the trio on a seven-day remand for interrogation over the killing of the former army official, their remand is yet to be executed.
Meanwhile, the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case filed over the killing of Major (Retd) Sinha in police firing has been changed.
Senior Assistant Police Super of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Khairul Islam has been made new IO, RAB Director (legal and media wing) Lt Col Ashik Billah confirmed it on Friday.
At the beginning, RAB-15 ASP Jamil Ahmed was made the IO of the sensational case.
Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post in Teknaf upazila on July 31.
His elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5.
However, terming the incident “unexpected”, the Bangladesh Police Service Association (BPSA) said those involved in it would face punishment, but the police as an institution will not take the responsibility for offence of a police man as an individuals.
