Int’l Museum Day tomorrow

The International Museum Day 2019 will be observed in the country like in other places of the world tomorrow (Saturday).
The theme of the day this year is ‘Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition’.
“The National Museum has chalked out daylong programmes on May 18 marking the day, which will start with a procession led by the State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid at 9:30am”, an official of the National Museum, Shihab Shahriar told BSS.
He also informed BSS that, at 11am, Khalid will address as the chief guest of a discussion on the Bengali historian and archaeologist – ‘Nalini Kanta Bhattasali’, whose contributions have gone a long way in clarifying many obscurities in the history and culture of ancient and medieval Bengal.
The discussion will be presided over by artist Hasem Khan. Dr AKM Shanewaz will present the main article at the discussion.
Later, the state minister will inaugurate the 23rd gallery of the national museum, which has recently been renovated.
The national museum will also organize an essay competition for kids titled ‘Museum I’ve seen’ and unveil the quarterly national museum magazine named ‘Museum News’.
The Liberation war museum has organized a discussion at 11am on May 17, at the national museum premises.
Jahangir Hussain, Chairperson, Bangladesh National Committee, International Council of Museums (ICOM), and Tamanna Rahman, renowned dance performer and manipuri dance exponent will participate in the discussion.
‘Udayan Academy’ and ‘Satyen Sen Shilpigosthi’ will present cultural performances after the discussion.
