Int’l confce on water issues from today

A two-day conference on key water issues titled ‘Himalaya Water Conference 2019: Highland-Lowland Interactions’ begins in the city on Saturday seeking solution to water crisis that is looming large over the countries in the Himalayan region.
Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) and Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) will jointly host the conference.
The conference will include the experts and representatives from
 SAARC countries, Myanmar, China, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
It aims to promote regional dialogue and multi-stakeholders partnership on water issues for effective water resources management and conflict mitigation in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region, organisers said on Friday.
The two-day conference will discuss the roles of interactive systemssuch as hydrology, geology, population dynamics, culture and social challenges,biodiversity, economics, lifestyle and climate change are going to be very important inthe near future of the Himalayan area and the lowlands around the mountains in Asiaparticularly South Asia, according to concept note of the conference.
The conference, according to organizers, also aims at advancing discussions on the above themes from regional perspective to stimulate actions on part of the stakeholders.
It will also serve as a platform for promoting regional dialogue and multi-stakeholders partnership on water issues for effective water resources management and conflict mitigation.
