International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised a daylong international conference on Archives and Records Management in Bangladesh (ICARM2015) on Saturday.
The objective of the conference was to spread the idea of the urgent need to improve records and archives in public and private organisations in Bangladesh for better governance and to provide a platform for the researchers and practitioners in archives and records management in Bangladesh and throughout the globe. The conference has been organized as a part of 25th foundation day celebration of IUBAT, the theme of the conference was Archives and Records for Good Governance.
Resource persons and specialists from Bangladesh and other countries like The Netherlands, India presented their research findings in the areas of information and records management, archives and information systems, laws and institutions, public sector information (PSI), research and scientific data management, health and medical services, digital information and records management, digital archiving and digitization, library and information management, media archiving and judicial records management, right to information act and their relations with good governance.
Wadudul Bari Chowdhury, Director, Directorate of Archives and Libraries, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Founder Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT presided over the conference.
Drs Sigfried Janzing, Director, Streekarchief Midden-Holland, archives institution in Gouda, the Netherlands and Mr Florus Geraedts from Netherlands were the Specialists and the Facilitators of the conference.
Mr Muhammad Ibne Mujib, Assistant Registrar, International Programs of IUBAT coordinated the conference.
The conference has been the first of its kind in Bangladesh and is identified as a milestone. The organizer, facilitators, paper presenters and participants expressed due desire for continuation of this conference in 2016. The conference ended through a closing ceremony and award of certificate to the facilitators, paper presenters and participants.
