The International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed yesterday in the country as elsewhere across the globe aimed at launching a united social movement for an end to the menace.
Each year on June 26, the Day is observed to create awareness among the people about the adverse impact of the drug abuse. The theme of this year is “Drug use disorders are preventable and treatable.”
To mark the day, seminars, rallies, discussions, painting competitions and other socio-cultural programs were held while national dailies published special supplements and
radios and televisions aired special programs.
The Day’s program began with holding a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club in the capital city this morning followed by an-anti drug procession and discussions.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, was present at the discussion as the chief guest while Tipu Munshi, chairman of parliamentary standing committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs was present as the special guest.
Among others, Director General (DG) of Department of Narcotic Control (DNC) M Atwar Rahman and ADG M Amir Hossain were also present.
The state minister later handed over crests and certificates among the winners of painting competitions and best officers and employees of the DNC.
