International seminar on “Blue Governance for Sustainable Dev of BD’ held by BSMRMU

An international seminar entitled “Blue Governance for Sustainable Development of Bangladesh” organized by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU), Bangladesh was held at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, MP graced the occasion as the chief guest through online. The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr Robert Chatterton Dickson was also present as the special guest while the Vice-Chancellor of University of Portsmouth Professor Graham Galbraithwas connected online.
BSMRMU Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal (retd) delivered the welcome speech. Rear Admiral (retd.) Md. KhurshedAlam, Secretary of Maritime Affairs Unit of MoFA delivered the keynote speech.
In his address, the chief guest emphasized on maritime research and education for the implementation of Prime Minister’s Blue Economy policy to ensure the sustainable development of Bangladesh and hoped that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University will play a vital role in the process.
The British High Commissioner, in his speech, pledged to continue the support of the British Government in various areas of Bangladesh including the maritime sector.
The chief guest launched a Special Maritime Journal and a free web based online course programme jointly undertaken by BSMRMU and University of Portsmouth.
Professor Dr. Pierre Failler from University of Portsmouth, Professor Chris Hauton from University of Southampton and Professor Dr. Kawser Ahmed from University of Dhaka also presented their valuable papers.
Representatives from various Ministries, UGC, high-ranking military and civilian officials, delegates from various universities, maritime organizations, teachers, students and officials of BSMRMU attended the seminar either in person or virtually.
