Chittagong Bureau :
Internal feud in the Chittagong City BNP has spread again over the formation of the thana committees in the port city, following the declaration of a 275-member full pledged committee of Chittagong City BNP on Wednesday by the central committee.
Sources said despite the fact that newly declared leaders of Chittagong City Committee had committed that the councils of 41 ward committees in the city area would be held within October last year but there is no council as per their commitment that was given in a press conference. As a result, the inner conflict is increasing among the leaders and activists of BNP in the city area.
Meanwhile, Dr Shahadat Hossain, the new president of BNP Chittagong City Committee declared eight thana committees in Chittagong on July 12 last. But, the leaders of all thana committees are dissatisfied over the declaration of the thana committees without council. The leaders alleged that the dedicated BNP leaders in root level were excluded from the committees.
They also alleged that Dr Shahadat Hossain formed the committees with his own men. Besides, they also alleged that Dr Shahadat Hossain took money for giving the posts to the leaders. As a result, the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir are also included in the committees.
Meanwhile, hundreds of leaders and activists of Double Mooring thana BNP cordoned the office of Dr Shahadat Hossain last evening. They protested the formation of thana committees as per his choice and excluding the actual BNP leaders. Later, Dr Shahadat Hossain called the police to save his office named Treatment Hospital in city, a sources said.
Officer-in-Charge of Panchlaish thana Mohiuddin Mahmud said, after the call of Dr Shahadat Hossain, Police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. On the other hand, Dr Shahadat Hossain said, I never called police.
I talked to the leaders and they went back after discussion.
New president of BNP Chittagong City Committee Dr Shahadat Hossain said, “BNP is trying to reorganize the party from root level by democratic way. As per decision of central committee, one leader one post policy will be followed in council.”
CU IER students start boycotting classes: Students of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of Chittagong University (CU) started boycotting classes from Wednesday for an indefinite period with their seven-point demands.
To press home their demands, around two hundred students of the institute staged a sit-in programme from 11:00am to 1:30pm in front of the institute teacher’s room.
Their demands include setting up new seminar room, computer lab, science lab, common room and debating club; repairing classrooms and toilets; and increasing the number of rooms for teachers.
The agitating students alleged that they had been facing multifarious problems as the administration did not pay heed to their demands despite repeated appeal.
They said their boycott would continue until their demands are met.
