Intern doctors of Barisal Sher -e- Bangla Medical College Hospital observed four-hour strike from Thursday morning to noon protesting attacks following death of patient.
SBMCH sources said Rina Begum 20, wife of Faizul Molla, from Rajpara village under Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur, admitted at female surgery ward of the hospital on October 6 morning in critical condition with post-delivery surgical infection .
However after admission condition of the patient deteriorated and she died at about 7:00 AM Thursday.
Dr. Mosaddek Hossain, one of the intern doctors, said death of Rina Begum made attendants of the patient tensed and they attacked the doctors, nurses on duty at the ward at about 7:45 AM.
Dr. Ashok Chandra, Dr. Shihab, Dr. Mahiyan and nurse Mamtaz Begum , of the ward became assaulted and injured in that attack.
After that intern doctors, main working force of the hospital, started strike demanding safety and security of the doctors, nurses, staffs and punishment of the attackers.
The doctors and hospital staffs also detaining three of the attackers handed over them to police.
