Inter-ministerial meeting held for Asia Cup Hockey

A high power Inter-ministerial was held at Youth and Sports Ministry Conference room on Sunday to evaluate the preparations of the forthcoming 10th Men’s Asia Cup Hockey.
The 10th edition of the quadrennial event will take place at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka, returning to Bangladesh for the first time since 1985.
The tournament will take place from October 11 to 22 and will be titled the ‘Hero Asia Cup 2017’.
Sport Minister Dr. Biren Sikdar presided the meeting to discuss the overall preparation of this competition meet where 28 foreign tournament committee officials from Asia, Europe, Canada and from Australia will be coming to Bangladesh to run the tournament.
The meetings specially emphasized on the security matters for the foreign participants and distinguish foreign guests during the hosting of the Asia Cup in the capital. To make this tourney successful, 18 crore renovation working is going at the hockey stadium which includes installing of floodlight and modern electronic scoreboard, dressing rooms and Press box.
Members of National Sports Council assured that the preparation is going on full swing and will be completed before the tournaments kicks-off.
Sports secretary M Asadul Islam, BHF president and Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc, related ministries and BHF senior EC members were present during the meeting.
This year, the premier continental tournament will feature host nation Bangladesh along with China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Oman and Pakistan.
Introduced in 1982, the inaugural Men’s Asia Cup was won by the nation Pakistan who also won the next two editions in 1985 and 1989. Since then, India (2003, 2007) and Korea (1993, 1999, 2009 and 2013) have also been champions in the nine editions played so far.
