Institute of Nutrition & Food Science of DU celebrates golden jubilee

The Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of Dhaka University completes 50 years of its journey on Saturday. Teachers, students, and employees celebrated the occasion through cutting cakes, taking out a celebratory procession, cultural events and holding discussion, said a university press release.
The procession was followed by a discussion presided over by the Director of Nutrition and Food Science Institute Dr. Sk. Nazrul Islam. Pro-Vice Chancellor of DU (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad was present as the chief guest while Dean of Biological Science Department Dr Md Imdadul Hoque was present as special guest, among others. At the beginning of the discussion, Pro-VC paid respect to the memory of Founding Director of Nutrition and Food Science institute Prof. Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed .
He said Kamaluddin was an excellent teacher and researcher. He has made a special contribution to the development of nutrition and food science and to raise public awareness on nutrition.
‘The young generation have to play an important role to produce nutritious food and to meet the nutritional needs of the people,” he added.
To mark the day, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman unveiled the portrait of Founding Director of Nutrition and Food Science institute Professor Kamal Uddin Ahmed on December 25.
