Court Correspondent :The Daily Inqilab journalist Atiqur Rahman on Wednesday made confessional statement admitting his involvement in preparing a malafide report on the joint operation in Satkhira. The report was published in the paper under the caption, ‘Cooperation of India in Joint Forces Operation in Satkhira’.Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Harun-or-Rashed recorded his confessional statement Under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).Besides, another Magistrate Maruf Hossain heard the bail petition of Atique and sent him to the jail rejecting his bail pleas. Atique’s lawyer Abdullah Mansur Ripon prayed for his bail. On January 17, the CMM Court sent the Daily Inqilab News Editor Rabiullah Rabi and Deputy Chief Reporter Rafique Mohammad to jail in the case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act. On January 16 at night, police seized and locked the office and press of the Daily Inqilab under the act. Police arrested the three journalists and seized two CPU, two monitors, one UPS, a tracing paper and draft copies of news from the News Room of the daily. Moreover, Senior Reporter Afzal Bari was detained and later he was released.
