BSS, Khulna :
Speakers at a seminar laid emphasis on taking right-based initiatives for rehabilitation of climate change victims on Wednesday.
Many people across the country have become refugees due to various reasons caused by the adverse impact of climate change including flood, river bank erosion and cyclone, they told the seminar titled ‘Right-based Protection of Climate Change Refugee” held in a city hotel here.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain, Prof Golam Sarwar of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Prof Golam Mostafa Sarwar and representatives of different government as well as non-government organisations, among others, addressed the seminar.
The speakers said Bangladesh is bearing burden of excessive carbon emissions caused by industrialised nations, which are mainly responsible for global warming, a great challenge for the planet. Despite having little contribution to global carbon emission, Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable to the adverse impact of global warming, they observed, adding that the responsible nations must provide financial and technical supports to the climate change victim countries.
