After online connectivity up to the upazila level, the government is now planning to expand the ICT facilities to the union parishad, the lowest tier of the local government.
In doing so, the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology has undertaken a project titled Info Sarkar (phase III) aimed at giving the Union Information Service Centre (UISC) an institutional shape.
This information came at a workshop on ‘Development of National ICT Infra- Network for Bangladesh Government (Info Sarkar Phase-3)’ arranged by the directorate in its conference room here.
Post & Telecommunication and Information & Communication Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest while State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak spoke as special guest.

Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Iqbal Mahmud presented the keynote paper highlighting salient features of the Info Sarkar project.
Speaking on the occasion, Latif Siddique said now a days experience and knowledge are equally important. He favoured development of the country in an integrated way saying that isolated development may cause violation of laws in society. “We want to use the technology in each and every sector,” said the minister.
Zunaid Ahmed said now is the time for information and technology.
He said digital Bangladesh means that people will not run after services rather services will hunt people. “The concept of the digital Bangladesh is a modern look of Sonar Bangla as envisioned by Bangabandhu,” said the country’s youngest minister. NI Khan said the country’s all 4547 UISC would be turned into three pronged having documentation and outsourcing centres with an aim to create job opportunities at grassroots level. Shamim Ahsan stressed the need for encouraging the private sector towards investment in the ICT sector after creating demand.
The IT sector will earn one billion US dollars and generate 10 lakh jobs in the next five years, he hoped.
