Indo-Bangla train service to resume

International passenger train service between Bangladesh and India is likely to resume on May 29 after 26 months. The Maitri and Bondhan Express trains will start operating on May 29, while the Mitali Express train will be on June 1.
The Maitri Express train runs between Dhaka and Kolkata, while the Bandhan train runs on the Khulna-Kolkata route and the Mitali Express will run from Dhaka to New Jalpaiguri. Though the decision to run the train on this route was taken earlier, it could not be started due to coronavirus situation, according to Railway Ministry sources.
However, movements of all types of passenger trains were suspended from March 24, 2020 after the outbreak of corona infection in the country. Earlier on March 15, 2020, the inter-state train services between Bangladesh and India was also stopped.
Though the passenger trains have started running in the respective countries after reducing of the number of cases of coronavirus but plying of inter-state train services have been stopped.
