Indian wild elephants damage crops in Roumari frontier

A herd of Indian wild elephants from Kalairchar hill of Assam Province entered into Algar Char under Jadurchar Union of Roumari Upazila in Kurigram and damaged paddy and vegetable field on Sunday.
The elephants numbering 50/60 entered into Bangladesh crossing international main pillar number 1072. Local sources said the herd of wild elephant entered into Bangladesh territory crossing no man’s land damaged various crop lands in border adjoining villages.
The villagers are passing their days in panic. The border adjoining people tried to remove those elephants beating drum and lighting (fire) and passing sleepless night to save their lives, houses and crops.
The border people may be damaged by the wild elephants at any times, local people said.
Chairman of Jadurchar union council Sarbes Ali told that the herd of Indian wild elephant suddenly comes from the Kalairchat hill area and Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) open the door to protect themselves. However the border adjoining people urged the local administration to take necessary action following the incident. Earlier the herd of Indian wild elephants entered into Bangladesh territory and damaged crops two months back.
