Indian smuggled clothes worth Tk 18 cr seized from Sundarbans

Smuggled clothes including shares , lehengas and shawls worth Tk18 crores was seized by the coastguards from Katka forest area under Sharankhola Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest in Bagerhat on Monday.
The seized clothes were handed over to Mongla Port Customs.  
Lt. Abdullah-al-Mahmud, Operation Officer of the Coast Guard of the Western Zone deployed Mongla told, acting on secret information the members of the Coast Guard raided Katka area of Sundarban forest on Monday morning. At that time sensing the appearance of the coastguards a trawler tried to flee away. Then the members chased it and at one stage the boarders and the crew of the trawler jumped from it and fled away into the deep forest. The coastguards caught the trawler, searched the same and recovered 4,166 pieces of Sharis, 202 pieces of Lehengas and 777 pieces of shawls (woolen wrappers).  
The market price of the seized trawler and the clothes is Tk.17 crores 78 lakh 13 thousand 5 hundred. The seized goods were handed over to Mongla (Port) customs on Wednesday in the evening. After seizing thisbig despatch of clothes smuggled from a neighbouring country (India) the patrolling duty of the coastguards was strengthened at the different points of Sundarban forest, in the sea and coastal areas, it was also disclosed by the Operation Officer.
