A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police have arrested an Indian arms trader from the city’s Gabtoli area along with several guns and ammunition.
The detained person has been primarily identified as Khairul Mondol alias Shariful Mandol alias Shafikul from North 24 Parganas of West Bengal, India.
Ten guns, 35 bullets and 12 magazines were seized from him, police said.
The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SM Masud Zaman on Tuesday placed him on a five-day remand to interrogate in police custody.
Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said, “On secret information, a team of DB on Monday night conducted a drive in the area and arrested the arms trader Khairul.”
Khairul might have link with the international arms smuggling gang, the DC said.
He came from India to sell and distribute the arms to their agents, he said.
He entered the country through the Benapole frontier with the help of a terror group of India, the police official said.
