Customs officials at Petrapole arrested an Indian national along with 13 gold bars weighing 3.3 kg from the no-man’s land between Benapole check post and Petrapole on Friday while he was returning from Bangladesh.
N Zaman, International Customs House super at Benapole, said the Indian, whose identity was not
revealed by the Indian customs officials, was arrested at noon.
Later, 13 gold bars were detected inside his bag when the Indian customs officials frisked him on the no-man’s land.
Zaman also said, the passenger had been able to get past the Benapole customs and immigration as he bypassed the customs building and took a straight road to the Indian side in a bid to evade the check, he added.
