India’s Home Ministry has alerted the country’s Eastern states of Meghalaya and West Bengal to watch out for the Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) radicals who were freed in the daring Sunday ambush in Mymensingh. “These states have been put on alert as our intelligence suspects they may cross over. Meghalaya is near Mymensingh, so they may try entry from there and then head for West Bengal where they have some allies,” said a Home Ministry official. But he was not willing to be named. He said Indian border guards and police must make every possible effort to nab these radicals if they try crossing into the country from Bangladesh. One of three JMB radicals who escaped was caught by locals within a few hours of the daring ambush at Trishal in Mymensingh. Salauddin Salehin alias Sunny and Md Jahidul Islam alias Bomaru Mizan. He was later killed in a ’crossfire’ while accompanying police on a raid. But the two other JMB radicals, Jahidul alias Boma Mizan and Salahuddin alias Sunny are still at large, three days after they were snatched away from a prison van on way to court. Bangladesh authorities have alerted India to possibilities that the two may seek to cross over to avoid detection. They are important militants and would be a source of worry to both India and Bangladesh,” said the Home Ministry official. Pictures of the two militants and possible disguises they may adopt have been circulated to BSF and police in the bordering states.
