India lifted up top billing as they produced a very impressive hockey to clinch the third Asia Cup title as they brushed aside Malaysia by 2-1 goals in the final of Hero Men’s Asia Cup Hockey held on Sunday at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.
Ramandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay proved to be the heroes for India with their goals in the first half of the match. India took early lead when Ramandeep opened an account for India in the very third minute (1-0) as Lalit doubled the lead for India with a field goal in the 14th minute (2-0).
Shahril Saabah pulled one back for Malaysia in the 4th quarter with a field goal in the 50th minute of the match (2-1).
Earlier, India had produced a brilliant performance to beat Malaysia 6-2 goals in their second Super four match.
On Saturday, India continued their unbeaten run in the tournament as they registered a convincing 4-0 win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a Super four encounter to book their place in the final.
