India to celebrate Int’l Mother Language Day Feb 21-22

The Indian Ministry of Culture has announced a two-day elaborate programmes beginning from tomorrow to observe the International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner aimed at promoting multilingualism.
The theme of this year’s International Mother Language Day has been chosen as “Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities”, according to a statement issued here by the Indian Ministry of Culture.
The ministry in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts IGNCA and UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office will organise the two-day programmes in physical and virtual format.
Culture Secretary Govind Mohan will present a key-note speech in the event followed by the address of Eric Falt, Director of UNESCO Cluster Office, New Delhi and renowned lyricist and poet Prasoon Joshi.
The programes also included poetry recitation in mother tongue, Group Song and Dance in different languages while a book titled ‘Tribal and Indigenous Languages of India’ written by Prof. Ramesh C Gaur, Dean IGNCA, will be launched at the function, the statement said.
International Mother Language Day is observed worldwide on 21st February every year to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
