India made 224 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs against Afghanistan in their innings in the ICC World Cup Cricket at Southampton in England on Saturday.
India had a awful start as opener Rohit Sharma (1) was bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman when their score was just seven.
Then KL Rahul and Virat Kohli repaired the damage contributing together 57 runs for the second wicket partnership before Rahul (30) was caught by Hazratullah Zazai off Mohammad Nabi when India’s score was 64 for the loss of two wickets.
After Rahul’s dismissal, one-down Virat Kohli and Vijay Shankar built another notable partnership. They put on together 58 runs in the third wicket stand before Shankar (29) was trapped leg before wicket by Rahmat Shah at 122 for the loss of three wickets.
Virat Kohli was caught at the point by Rahmat Shah off Mohammad Nabi when India’s score was 135 for the loss of four wickets.
Kohli hit a captain’s knock of 67. His 63-ball innings had five fours. It was Kohli’s 52nd ODI half century.
After Kohli’s departure, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav added together 57 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Dhoni (28) was stumped out by Ikram Alikhil off Rashid Khan when India’s score was 192 for the loss of five wickets.
Fifth-down Hardik Pandya (7) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil off Aftab Alam when the score was 217 for the loss of six wickets.
Mohammad Shami was bowled out by Gulbadin Naib at 222 for the loss of seven wickets.
Fourth-down Kedar Jadhav was caught at the cover by substitute Noor Ali Zadran off Gulbadin Naib when India’s score was 223 for the loss of eight wickets.
Jadhav hit a fine 52 from 68 balls featuring three fours and a six. It was his maiden ODI half century.
Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib bagged a couple of wickets each instead of 33 and 51 runs respectively.
Rahmat Shah, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan and Aftab Alam took one wicket each for 22, 26, 38 and 54 runs respectively.
