Independence Day observed

Chittagong district administration, city corporation and various political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Independence and National Day on Monday in a befitting manner.
The day long programmes began with the heralding of 31-gun salute at Chittagong District administration hill and placing of wreaths at the city’s Shaheed Minar at the zero hours on Monday.
The programs also include hoisting of national flag atop of all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, institutions, reception to the freedom fighters and screening of documentary films at different cinema halls and other open places.
A combined march-past of the Police, Ansar-VDP, Fire Service, BNCC, Scouts, Girls Guides, Jail guards and students of different educational institutions held at Parade ground of Chawkbazar in the morning. Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan took the salute from the march-past as the chief guest.
In the afternoon, the valiant freedom fighters accorded reception at Chittagong circuit house. Sports competition and discussion organized for the women on Shishu Academy premises in the afternoon.
At the district Shishu Academy, competition on arts, patriotic songs and poetry recitation was arranged for the school and college students.
The members of the Premier University Law Alumni Association (PULAA) paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the liberation war by placing wreath at the premises of Shaheed Minar in city on the occasion of great Independence and National Integrity Day on Monday .
The PULAA members brought out jubilant procession led by its President Senior Judicial Magistrate Shoibuddin Khan and the general secretary Sanjoy Biswas from Hazari lane campus of the University at about 8 am aimed at placing the wreath at Shahid Minar on the occasion of Independence Day. Among others, former President and Secretary of PULAA Advocate Md Imran and Mostafizur Rahman Shimul respectively and the incumbent EC members of the present committee (2017-18) were present on the occasion.
