The Independence Day marathon marking the Independence Day was held on Friday in the city, said a press release.
A large number of men and women athletes, sports lovers, sports organizers, people from different works of life took part in the marathon that began at Army Stadium and concluded at Manik Mia Avenue.
Tuhin Sikder of Bangladesh Navy emerged top in men’s marathon while Abdul Hai of Bangladesh Air Force and Abdur Rahim of Bangladesh Navy finished second and third position respectively.
On the other hand, Meruna Khatun of Bangladesh Navy stood top in the women’s marathon while Reshmi Akter and Rabeya Akter of Bangladesh Police finished second and third position respectively.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder was present in the marathon as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
DNRB Commercial Bank chairman engineer Sarasat Ali , Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) president ASM Ali Kabir and BAF general secretary advocate Abdur Rokib Montu were also present on the occasion.
