Dhaka Abahani Limited reached the final of the Independence Cup Football defeating Saif Sporting Club by two goals to nil in the first semi-final at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur on Tuesday.
Abahani led the first half 1-0.
Abahani’s Costa Rican recruit Daniel Colindres put his team by a spectacular free-kick in the 25th minute of the play. Abahani’s attacking midfielder Rakib Hossain advanced with the ball near the danger zone of the Saif Sporting Club. He was roughly charged by a defender of Saif Sporting Club. The referee did not show any card to the defender. But he awarded a free-kick in front of the D-box of Saif Sporting Club. Colindres denied the manmade wall as well as the goalie of Saif Sporting Club to give Dhaka Abahani Limited a lone-goal lead.
After the intermission, Saif Sporting Club got an easy chance in the second half. Saif Sporting Club’s foreign recruit Maraj got the ball in the Abahani’s danger zone from a throw-in of his teammate Emphone. But Maraj failed to hit the ball into the blank post.
Abahani Limited confirmed their victory when Abahani’s Nabib Newaz’s shot found the net in the 81st minute of the game. Nabib Newaz got the ball from a free-kick of his teammate Daniel Colindres.
Colimdres performed really well in the last year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football. He played for champions Bashundhara Kings in the BPL Football. After that he left Bangladesh. Colindres played for Costa Rica in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Daniel is now in a good form and he has kept Abahani in a good rhythm.
