Prime Mover Tailor workers and owners called indefinite strike from 8 am yesterday in all off-docks in the city.
Parishad sources said, out of total 11 thousand prime movers , 10,999 expressed allegiance to the strike call.
Following the non-functioning of the prime movers, tailors the import, export and supply activities of the port will face deadlock situation, the business community feared.
Prime Mover Trailor Owners, Workers Oikya Parishad called for indefinite strike to press home their 7-point demands including suspension of city corporation tax of Tk.10 thousand against each transport. The Parishad leaders said the transport workers and owners decided to enforce indefinite strike from Monday protesting the abnormal tax imposition by CCC. Secretary of the Parishad Md. Humayun Kabir told that CCC would realize Tk.500 per prime mover and now it increased to Tk.10 thousand .
Despite a number of seatings with the CCC authority, the matter remain unresolved. On the other hand , BRTA registration authority realize Tk.60 thousand from prime mover vehicles as registration fees every year for front engine part of the prime mover.
Sources said while transporting cargo , a career part is joined with engine part for which BRTA is creating complications over it. In the meantime, Road Transport and Bridge minister ordered the BRTA chairman to resolve the matter but yet to be implemented the directives of the minister, sources said.
Parishad sources said they sent letters to six bodies related to port activities , police and vehicle registration authority to mitigate the matter but none came forward except Ctg Port.
Protesting the unnecessary harassment of police over prime mover transportation, increased CCC tax etc, Parishad declared indefinite strike from yesterday.
The other demands include to issue driver licence to the Operators of Prime Movers, construction of terminal in port area for prime movers and stopping of extortions in the name of overloading, sources added.
