Incentives offered to doctors and nurses is well deserved

The government has decided to give incentives to doctors, nurses, health workers and other employees who are fighting the war against COVID-19. Besides, there would be health insurance of Tk 5-10 lakh for them if they are infected with coronavirus while discharging their duties. If anyone dies, the coverage amount of the health insurance will be five times higher. We appreciate the announcement to encourage the doctors, the frontline soldiers against the unseen enemy coronavirus. But the lack of preparedness among the doctors due to inadequacy of life saving modern medical equipment, ICU facilities, ventilators and others should also be taken under consideration, if government really wants to save people’s lives. The government has decided that incentives would be applicable for those who have been fighting the COVID-19 since last month putting their lives at risk.
Generally, the doctors have to provide treatment if any patient comes. Death of any patient after being refused by several hospitals is very painful. Now government has to announce incentives to bring back them to hospitals. A doctor is educated and trained with the taxpayers’ money to serve people in their need. This is high time to stay close with the hospitals to serve the patients. But a section of doctors are not allegedly providing treatment to other patients, apart from corona affected, closing their clinics and private chambers for keeping themselves safe from virus infection. For such attitudes, a lot of patients had to move from one hospital to another to get treatment. It’s a global ethical standard that doctors should have to ensure service to common people in the time of need.
In the recent times, several incentives so far have been announced for the doctors to make them patient-friendly, but a few of them were reportedly implemented. We hope this time the doctors will not be deprived of their benefits.
