Imran Sarkar faces probe under ICT Act: Asad

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said, the government is trying to identify the people who are behind spreading of fake news of a protester’s death during the quota reform movement.
The members of law enforcing agencies have brought under
surveillance 25 Facebook accounts and verified pages. Ganojagoran Mancha Convener Imran H Sarkar and some identified account holders will be sued under Digital Security Act.
Talking to the reporters at the Secretariat, the Minister said, “We are trying to identify the perpetrators who were inciting the demonstrators by spreading bogus death news of a participant in police firing.”
About the agitators behind the attack and vandalising the Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence, the Minister said, the video footage of the incident has been scrutinised and case will be filed against the guilty.
“The Detective Branch of police and other law enforcers are working to spot the attackers. They are also trying to find out whether any political leader was involved with the attack or not”, he added.
Replying to a query about Ganojagoran Mancha convener Imran H Sarkar, Asaduzzaman said, “Not only Imran H Sarkar, others who were with him in spreading the news will be identified”.
The boy, whose death news was spread through the Facebook, later, himself published a post stating “I’m not dead”.
Replying to a question about Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), he said that Chhatra League leaders were never involved in any kind of violence. Miscreants are spreading the misleading news about BCL.
