The leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the ruling Awami League, on Saturday said, the Gonojagoron Mancha has been isolated from the people as the mancha leaders are working against the people’s interests. “Imran H Sarker, spokesman of Mancha, is a liar and unscrupulous man. He was to run the Mancha on the right track. But now he is working against the people’s interests. That is why the people has rejected him and the mancha,” they said. The leaders of the organistion said this at a press conference held at the Modhu’s Canteen on the Dhaka University (DU) campus, protesting the recent remarks of Imran H Sarker. The BCL leaders also demanded arrest of the killers of BCL, Rajshahi University unit leader Rustom Ali. BCL General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam said, “We (BCL and Mancha) were in the street for demanding capital punishment to the war criminal Quader Mollah. Our struggle was against the war criminals. That is why we organised united movement. Now Imran H Sarker is not on the right track. We heard that he was getting huge money from unknown sources. We vigorously protested it.” About the BCL attack on Gonojagoron Mancha activists BCL President HM Badiuzzaman Shohag said that they would apologise to the countrymen if they were proved guilty. “We will apologise to the nation standing in front of the National Press Club if Imran H Sarker, spokesman of Mancha, can prove with sufficient evidence that BCL carried out any attack on them on Thursday night,” the BCL chief said. “Otherwise, Imran H Sarker will have to seek apology for his allegation against us,” Shohag said. HM Badiuzzaman Shohag blamed Islami Chhatra Shibir, associate body of Jamaat-e-Islami, for killing BCL RU leader Rustam Ali, saying that the Shibirmen killed Rustam Ali as he was the most influential leader on the RU campus. He demanded arrest of the killers of Rustam Ali who was killed on Friday, within 24-hour. It may be mentioned that Imran on Thursday night, claimed that some BCL students and Muktijoddha Sangsad activists assaulted Mancha workers, as they opposed the government “decision to receive donation from Islami Bank” for arranging mass national anthem singing programme successfully.Protesting the attack on Imran and others, the Gonojagoron Mancha activists held a rally at Shahbagh crossing on Friday afternoon.Their attempt to stage rally was however foiled as police intercepted them and picked up at least seven persons from the spot. Two separate cases, blaming each other were lodged with Shahbagh Police Station blaming each other on Thursday night.Later, police produced two persons before the court and released five others.
