Import-export through Benapole suspended

Import- Export trade between the two countries has been suspended through Benapole port on Saturday morning. However, only Hilsa fish has been exported from Bangladesh to India through the Port.
On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birthday, there is a public holiday in India; Import-export through Benapole-Petrapole port has been suspended. As a result, thousands of trucks are stuck on both sides.
Thousands of trucks carrying goods have been stranded in various parts of the country due to the suspension of import and export. Most of which are raw materials of Bangladesh’s 100% export oriented garments industry.
Especially high perishable goods were damage in this time many drivers open their triples from the foods on the open sky.
Kartik Chandra, general secretary of the Staff Welfare Association of Petrapole Port on the other side, said, Import-Export trade between Bangladesh and India has closed as we have a public holiday on the occasion of the 155th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.” Import and export trade will continue at normal start from Sunday morning.
Benapole Port Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said the import-Export trade through Benapole-Petrapol Port has been suspended since Saturday morning as there is a public holiday in India on the occasion of the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
However, only hilsa fish is being exported from Bangladesh to India. The loading and unloading process of Benapole port is normal.
Mohammad Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Benapole Checkpost Police Immigration, said that despite the suspension of import-export trade between the two countries, the passport passenger travel is normal.
