Leaders of Citizen Initiatives on CEDAW- Bangladesh (CIC-BD) urged the government to take necessary measures immediately for approval and implementation of the CEDAW convention in the country.
They made the call at a discussion meeting organized by the CIC-BD, a platform comprised with 53 non-government women and human rights organizations, on Tuesday to present its observations and recommendations on the 8th provisional report of the government on CEDAW convention.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) Standing Committee Member Shirin Akhter, MP, Human Rights Commission Chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman, foreign ministry director general Mustafizur Rahman, additional secretary of ministry of women and children affairs A K M Nasir Uddin, former chairperson of UN CEDAW Committee Salma Khan, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) founder member Dr Hamida Hossain, CAMPE executive director Rasheda K Chowdhury, Manusher Janna Foundation executive director Shaheen Anam and BRAC director Sheepa Hafiza, among others, spoke on the occasion with Bangladesh Mahila Parishad president Ayesha Khanam in the chair.
Demand for lifting reservation on the article-2 of CEDAW convention, Dr Mizanur Rahman said the reservation is completely illegal which has no legal base.
