Immediate steps to repair flood control dam in Kamalganj demanded

Farmers and locals of eight villages in Madhabpur Union area under Kamalganj Upazila in Moulvibazar district formed a human chain at Simultola area in Dhalai River area of Madhabpur union, demanding immediate steps to repair the flood control embankment that collapsed in the area recently.
 The authority said, on Monday they submit budget on Monday.  
Over hundreds farmers formed joined human chain in front of Simultola area at 5.30pm on Monday to mount pressure on the authorities concerned to meet the demand. In this programme presided by oldest man of Madhabpur Union area Chandra Badan Singha.
Kamalganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Rafiqur Rahman, UNO Md Mahmudul Haque assured the locals that they would take necessary steps as soon as possible to repair the dyke.
Locals said, Over 250 meters area of the embankment collapsed at Beribad area, letting tidal water enter to the eight villages. Local farmers are facing uncertainty about aman paddy cultivation as vast agricultural lands have been affected by saline water.
Pushpo Lal Kanu, Chairman of Madhabpur Union Parishad, said two to three feet water flooded villages in the Upazila following collapse of the flood control embankment under the impact of tidal surge. But governments not take immediate action.
“The authorities concerned should take immediate step to repair the damaged embankment to prevent further damage,” he said, adding that Water Development Board (WDB) repaired the embankment last year but it has collapsed due to low quality work.
When contacted, Foizur Rob, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board confirmed the matter to The New Nation.
