A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed an imam and his accomplice on a five-day remand in connection with a case filed over the death of an RMG worker in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area.
They are Maulana Md Abdur Rahman, imam of Dakshinkhan Sardar Para Mosque, and Asma, the wife of the victim.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesi passed the order after Investigation Officer Anuj Kumar Sardar, also sub-inspector of Dakshinkhan Police Station, produced the two with a 10-day remand prayer, court sources said.
Law enforcers yesterday morning recovered mutilated and decomposed body of Azharul Islam from the septic tank of the mosque at Dakshinkhan. Azhar had been missing since May 20. Upon receiving complaints of blood stain on the mosque’s stairs and bad odor from the sceptic tank, a Rab team first detained Abdur Rahman, said Rab officials. Based on his information, the body was recovered from the septic tank.
According to the case documents, Abdur Rahman was in a relationship with the victim’s wife Asma.
Following an altercation over their relationship, Abdur Rahman on May 20 stabbed Azhar with a knife, leaving him dead. He then mutilated the body and dumped it in the tank to cover up the murder, the case statements said.
