The International Labour Organization (ILO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have agreed to reinforce their collaboration in Bangladesh, in particular relating to efforts to strengthen child protection services and to combat child labour.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ILO and UNICEF in Dhaka recently by Srinivas B. Reddy, ILO Country Director for Bangladesh and Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh, said a press release.
Speaking at the signing which took place at the ILO Country Office in Dhaka, Srinivas Reddy said, “By working together, ILO and UNICEF can make a real difference to the lives of millions of children and help the government meet its goal of eliminating child labour in Bangladesh by 2025.”
The MoU will guide collaboration between the two UN agencies around activities of common interest under the United Nations Development Assistance Framework for Bangladesh and the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Combining the expertize, reach and influence of both UNICEF and ILO will play a critical role in ensuring achievement of the government of Bangladesh’s goal of eliminating child labour by 2025, improving well-being of children and women and ensuring progress in other important areas for children.
