The ongoing eviction drive on the both banks of the River Mayur, the economic life line of Khulna, continued on Wednesday for the eight consecutive days.
The district administration is conducting the drive in collaboration with different stakeholders, including Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
Executive magistrates Md Imran Hossain, M Masum Billah, DC official Jahangir Hossain, KCC Assistant estate officer M Sheikh Masud Ali Khan and KCC’s fifty staff are part of the group leading the drive which began on September 1, said Estate Officer of KCC Nuruzzaman Talukder.
During the drives, 51 illegal structures were freed on Wednesday at Nirala, Kasemnagor, Gallamari area on the banks of the River Mayur from illegal occupation, he said adding that workers bulldozed a two and a four storied building today.
The drives also recovered nearly two acres of land bulldozing 51 illegal structures, he said.
Talking to BSS, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain said drives will be continued until pulling down of 382 illegal structures situated on the banks of River Mayur, Bhairab, Rupsha and 26 city canals.
BSS frim Rajshahi adds: Around 50 illegal infrastructures on both sides of Baneshwar-Charghat roads in the district were evicted on Wednesday for smooth movement of vehicles. Department of Roads and Highway conducted the eviction drive in presence of Puthiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Liton Sarker.
Sub Divisional Engineer of the roads and highway department Sanjida Afrin told BSS that the infrastructures were erected on both sides of the road illegally hindering the traffic and pedestrian movement on the busy road. Before launching the eviction drive, the occupiers were served notice requesting to remove the infrastructures within September 6.
She also said the road department has a plan of expansion and development of roads for ensuring better communication in the region.
