A section of dishonest unscrupulous people have been continuing rampant sand lifting from Fulzore River at Zakree village under Rayganj Upzilla, Alokdiar village Ullapare Upazila under Sirajganj district, threatning under erosion of dwelling houses and arable lands.
Sand traders have been extracting Sand by sinking extracting Sand bay Sinking pipes into the river bed of with dredgers from the area for long, but the authority concerned seems to be oblivious to the matter, it is alleged.
Local people said that a member of influential people are involved in such illegal act. Around 60-70 truck loads of Sand are being sold every day from there. Per truck Sand is being sold at Tk. 1200 to 1600.
Local people said they have informed the Kamarkhonda Police station and administration of the matter, but nothing has been done so far to stop sand lifting Mozammel Hossain Union Parishad Chairman of the Nlaka village said that he has applied to District administration and several office for the permission to extract Sand from the Fulzore river as his crop land is adjacent to the river, A major portion of my land has gone under the river and I have stopped lifting sand from there” he added.
During a recent visit in the affected areas this correspondent found that everyday and night near about 15-16 shallow machines lifting sand from riverbed spot daylight. The extracted sand was the taken to different areas by a numbers of tracks. Local effected persons said several time they lodged complaint with the concerned authority in this regard and also formed a human chain last Saturday demanding immediate steps to stops rampant sand lifting from the Fulzor river several point. But no step has so far been taken, they alleged.
In this circumstance the local people urged to the concerned authorities to take immediate measures the stop sand lifting from the river and save their croplands and house.
