A team of Customs Intelligence seized 409 costly mobile handsets worth Tk 1.5 crore in a drive at ‘Gadget and Gear’ show room in the city’s Gulshan area on Thursday afternoon, customs officials said.
Director General (DG) of Custom Intelligence and Investigation M Mainul Khan confirmed the matter and said that a team of the customs Intelligence conducted a special search in an outlet of the shop at Gulshan following a secret information and seized the illegal handsets of Nokia, Blackberry, Sony and Motorola brands, among others.
The handsets were
brought illegally and without paying the customs duty and obtaining the necessary papers from Bangladesh Telecommunications and Regulatory Commission (BTRC), he added.
A case was filed with the Gulshan Police Station in this connection, the customs official said.
