Railway authorities on Saturday evicted over 100 illegal shops and establishments along rail tracks at Gate No-2 area in the city following the death of four people being hit by train on Karwanbazar level crossing in the capital on Thursday. Railway (Eastern Zone) divisional estate official Jasimuddin said the drive was conducted in the area to evict the makeshift kitchen market and illegal structures along the rail tracks.
“The drive will continue,” added Jasimuddin.
Four people, including a woman, were killed and five others injured as they, trapped between two rail tracks, were hit by two moving trains at Karwanbazar in the city on Thursday morning.
