IGP warns against drug trading, human trafficking

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said that none will be spared if found involved in trading drug and human trafficking.
“The culprits who are mastermind behind these crimes will be brought to book and given exemplary punishment. Police will not compromise with anyone whether his power and the force already has taken some special measures in this regard,” added the IGP.
The IGP said while addressing as the chief guest at a discussion meeting with cross section of people in Chittagong, held at police lines field in port city on Sunday evening.
Speaking at the function Shahidul Hoque called upon to the people of all walks of life including members of Community Police to create mass awareness among the people about its adverse impact.
He urged the members of community police to work for the welfare of the country-men without public interest and strengthen the hand of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who enhanced social safety net for the people of the country.
He also asked the policemen to show zero tolerance toward drug traders and human trafficking and discharge their duties with supreme sacrifice to ensure a peaceful environment in the country.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondol, presided over the function while former Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and President of Chittagong city AL A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Chittagong range, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mezbahuddin, Chittagong north and south district presidents of Awami League Nurul Alam Chowdhury and Muslem Uddin Ahmed respectively, Vice President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries Sayed Zamal Ahmed, 1st Vice President of BGMEA Nasir Uddin Chowdhury among others addressed the function.
71 listed accused held in Ctg : Chittagong district police in special drives arrested 71 people, including 2 activists of Jamaat-Shibir, from different upazilas of the district from Sunday night to Monday morning.
Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district said they were detained71 people, includingtwo activists of Jamaat-Shibir in overnight raids in various places under different Upazilas.
The detained include 22 accused in regular case and 69 absconder in different cases of convictioned.
The police also seized about 500 grams of ganza during the drive.
