Ali Reza Iftekhar, Managing Director and CEO of Eastern Bank Limited (EBL), has been elected as the Chairman of Association of Bankers, Bangladesh Limited (ABB) for the next two-year term( 2020-21) at its 22nd annual general meeting held on Saturday.
He was also Chairman of the ABB for two-year tenure (2014-15) earlier.
The apex body of banking professionals of the country- ABB has also elected Dr. Haider Ali, MD and CEO of Exim Bank, Mehmood Hossain, MD and CEO of NRB Bank Ltd and Ataur Rahman Prodhan , MD and CEO of Sonali Bank as Vice Chairmen while Rahel Ahmed, MD and CEO of Prime Bank Ltd. was elected as the Secretary.
In his 34 years of chequered career, Iftekhar held important positions in local private and international banks including Banque Indosuez and Standard Chartered Bank.
Iftekhar has vast experience in risk management, corporate compliance and regulatory issues in banking sector and has attended many overseas trainings and seminars on corporate, retail and credit in the Middle East, Europe, the Far East and other regions across the globe.
He is best known for his adopting international best practices of corporate governance, creating value through innovative products and services, pioneering ethical and responsible banking for the betterment of banking culture of the country.
